There's something about getting the weekend's long run out of the way by 9 a.m. on a Saturday morning. And being able to do it with friends? Makes it so much better.
Today was the kickoff to Round No. 2 with the Fleet Feet half marathon training team. There were some faces from the first go around that were missing (so sad you won't be with us Jasmine!) and a couple who were just MIA for the week, but in addition to the girls I met and bonded with the first time there were a TON of new folks (hi Deanna!). I'm excited to get to know them over the next few months.
Since I've still got a decent base built up from the spring, I'm on an intermediate program. Instead of starting off with 5 miles, I was supposed to do 8 miles today. And lucky for me my running buddy Peggy has the same schedule. So we were able to set out for 8 miles of running, catching up and general girl talk.
I won't say the miles flew by in the blink of an eye, but they did go pretty quickly. I started to feel it in the legs during the last two miles, but I'm attributing that to the fact that I haven't had many 6+ mile runs during the last month. I still had enough left in the legs to attack the Ballard Road hill in the final 1.5 miles and finish strong though.
Once the run was done there was no time to be lazy. I had enough time to de-stinkify myself with a quick shower before heading out for a day's worth of fun at ChickenFest, the local community festival by my parents' house. There was a parade to watch, some food to eat, rides to go on with The Rugrats, games to play and music to listen to.
I don't think I was done until 4 p.m. That's a lot of hours on my feet. And yes, my legs are screaming at me tonight. But it's a good scream. I think.

Sounds like you're in a really great run group! I just went to a Fleet Feet in Raleigh last weekend, my first time checking out one of their stores. Seems like they have a lot going on. Hope you're having a great weekend!
