The trophy came home

In case you've been living under a rock, it's been an amazing couple of days here in Wisconsin.

The Vince Lombardi Trophy came back home to Green Bay.

I went to a friend's house for a Super Bowl party on Sunday. There was the required food and chatter. But there was also a lot of screaming. And yelling. And voodoo finger waving during key points - I swear it was our voodoo magic that sent that missed Steelers' field goal wide. And screaming. And of course there was the silence that descended early in the second half when Pittsburgh was making a run. But the screaming and voodoo fingers returned by the end of the third quarter, Clay Matthews forced a fumble, the Packers put a few more points on the board and the rest, as they say, is history.

The trophy came home.

And the crowds lined the streets of Green Bay to welcome the team home yesterday. As much as I would have loved to be there - or today when fans packed Lambeau Field for the "Return to Titletown" event - I was stuck at work at my desk. But I followed along vicariously through people's tweets and in just about 15 minutes I'll be parking myself in front of the TV to watch a rerun of the Titletown celebration.

Super Bowl champs. It's been a long time. I was in high school the last time it happened at Super Bowl XXXI.

Now here's the running connection.

Last year when I ran the Green Bay Half Marathon I got choked up as I ran into the bowels of the stadium and came out of the players' tunnel for a lap around Lambeau Field. It was my victory over The Monster.

This year, when I run through that tunnel, it's going to be pretty inspiring as well. Because it's the same steps that this team of guys walked every home game weekend. A team that many counted out when the injuries started taking their toll and it seemed as though half the team was on the injured reserve list. A team of guys that had a goal at the beginning of the season - to get to the Super Bowl and bring the trophy home - and put in the work they needed to achieve it. A team whose mentality totally fits in with J.J Watt's "Dream Big. Work Hard" philosophy.

Needless to say, I can't wait for May.

omg! too funny to hear your wisconsin experience! I'm a steelers fan (yah, yah, i know. I grew up in PA in the 70's during the Terry Bradshaw years), but i still don't care too much. I LOVE that you love it!!

woo-hoo!

Glad that the Packers won. It must be really exciting to have your favorite team win the Super Bowl. I don't think the Lions will ever get to the Super Bowl. :)

How awesome is it that you get to run through the tunnel again? It must be such a thrill. :)

Everyone at work wanted to know why I didn't take a trip up to Titletown to celebrate. It must be crazy up there.
