The good, the bad and the unclassified

The good news: I cranked out a quick 3 mile run on the YMCA treadmill tonight after work and got home just in time to tune into "The Bachelor." Seriously Ali, why'd you walk away? He almost begged you to stay?

The bad news: I was trying something new for dinner. A baked potato with a side of corn. Sounds simple. The corn turned out great (how could I mess up frozen corn). The baked potato? Let's just call that an epic failure. Yeah. It was in the oven for an hour! And it still tasted and looked like it was a raw potato! And yes, the oven was on. So my dinner turned into corn and some cinnamon toast. The dinner of champions. I might try a second attempt at a potato tomorrow.

The unclassified news: We're supposed to get 9 inches of snow tomorrow. I know that's nothing compared to what you folks in the DC area are dealing with. And honestly, we haven't gotten much snow lately, so I'm kind of excited. But even though I'm going to try my hardest not to leave my office tomorrow once I get there, I'm still packing my gym bag and planning on hitting up the YMCA after work. I've gotta catch a glimpse of the Badgers somehow :)

I'm so over winter! Denver only got about 5" but it's cold and ughhhh. Plus I'm sick so am super whiny about it all. haha. I used to watch The Bachelor all the time but haven't this season, though I did get a nice recap on Ellen while on the treadmill at the gym the other day. haha. Hope you have a great week running!

I wish we would get some of the snow that keeps coming up short of me. Enjoy the snow. Go Badgers!!!

Did you poke holes in the potato with a fork? That's all I can come up with for how it wouldn't cook up in an hour :)

I'm excited for the snow too! It seems weird to see DC getting 2 feet of snow and knowing we've only had a few inches this year so far.

I watched The Bachelor last night (don't watch regularly) and was truly shocked that Ali left. You'd think these women would make sure they can have the time off work before committing to the show...

Be safe in the snow!

Okay, from the Queen of Baked Potatoes: If you want a nicely cripy 'jacket' potato (im English) and you haven't got the 2 hours of oven time. Cook it in the microwave for 7-8 minutes until it is completely cooked through (for a big one).then put it in the oven for 30mins to an hour (no foil needed), depending on how thick you like the skin. I like mine nice and thick and crispy so would put i in there for45 mins. but 30 gives you crisp. If from completely uncooked, at least 1.45-2.15 at 350f great if you are cooking a roast but a long time on a weekday eve. Good luck!

we've all flubbed potatoes at some point in time. lately my favorite attempt that's worked has been cutting sweet potatoes into fry shapes and baking them. only takes about 30 minutes and they are delish.

I keep forgetting that the bachelor is on monday nights! I keep missing it!!!

I have had a similar problem with potatoes...I try to microwave the potoato for 5 minutes (i put holes in it before i do this with a fork or knife so it wont blow up) then put it in the oven. Sometimes if the potato is really big it takes a long time...idk why but its weird. maybe its the potato crop this year!

It's so weird. Usually my parents laugh at me because I get stupidly excited that we might get snow! That sticks! I mean, last year, I never had to shovel. (There was once enough snow that I should have shoveled, but it was late in the evening, so I was going to get to it in the morning, but when morning came, it had melted away.)

This winter has been the snowiest winter I remember, except maybe junior year of high school when we had 2 snow days in a row. But, IIRC, that was more high wind and drifting than actual snow.

Thanks for the potato advice guys. I think I might try it again later this week, I'll let you know how it goes.

And Lacey, glad to hear Badgergirl has found her way back into your Google Reader!
